Take a stroll through Plaza Matriz, the oldest plaza in Montevideo, to admire period architecture in a vibrant atmosphere. The center of colonial Montevideo, the square stands between some of the longest-established public buildings in the city, with the leafy plaza offering views of neoclassical buildings through the trees. Well-maintained and lively, the plaza hosts an abundance of street performers and street food vendors, making it a nice place to take a break. Market stalls selling trinkets, antiques, and souvenirs dot the square, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of daily life. • We were off a cruise boat, the sky was clear then one hour later heavy rain. The central square has many vendors set up. Free wifi , sit outside of the mcdonalds.

  • A beautiful place in the old town. The fountain with the spelling mistake and some strange figures is the centre. Around you find religion, museum, restaurants and more. People sitting on the benches just enjoying the sun is very nice.
  • In the heart of Montevideo is the beautiful Constitution Square. Here you will find some amazing buildings from the cathedral to the Club Uruguay. It is the oldest plaza in Uruguay and was named in honor of the Spanish constitution of 1812.
