Red sandstone rock formations more than 150 million years old lend the name to Valley of Fire State Park. Established in 1935, Nevada's oldest park spans nearly 17,000 hectares (42,000 acres) and includes ample hiking and camping opportunities. You’ll have the chance to explore different geological formations, such as limestone and shale. Because the sandstone is so soft, you’ll see petroglyphs (rock art carved into the sandstone), dating as far back as 300 BCE created by the ancient Anasazi Pueblo people. The visitor center details the geologic and archaeological roots of the region. If you keep a sharp eye out, you may even spot the rare desert tortoise. Take a look at our Overton trip website to schedule your visit to Valley of Fire State Park and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

This has to be one of my all time favorite places. We got there early morning. The park was quiet and our first hike was amazing on the White Domes trail. The Narrows was definitely my favorite part of this trail. Everywhere you look is something interesting. This whole park is amazing and if you drag it out could spend a whole day here. Hikes are easy and most everyone we came across was friendly.

Valley of fire State Park! Wow I can't even begin to describe the beauty of this place. Here is just a few pics of it. First of all it is the most peaceful and quiet place. It looks like it's not even real at all. The weather was just perfect and sunny. I would advise you to wear enclosed shoes and have some water on you if you decide to hike around. There are wildlife out here like snakes etc so be careful of the holes in the ground. Also make sure you have enough gas in the tank Because it's a long way to a gas station and cell service might not be the best out there.
