You'll be treated to views of lush green plants, far off mountains, and the ocean in the distance when you hike Sleeping Giant Trail. Named because the mountain from a distance looks like the profile of a giant lying down, this 6.4 km (4 mi) trail (roundtrip) takes you through wide, grassy pastures, across a bridge, and over a stream. It is not for the unfit--you'll face an elevation gain of 305 m (1,000 ft). You'll climb an increasingly steep, though not technical, trail until you find yourself at a picnic bench at the top. Be sure to bring sunscreen, water, and bug spray, as some portions provide very little cover and insects can be quite active. Do not hike past the sheltered picnic area; terrain is extremely unstable beyond this point and venturing further has proved fatal for some visitors. • This is a great hike. Was a bit steep for me to climb all the way but went as high as I could. The views are awesome. Do take water with you. My grandson got himself worn out and fell asleep in...
