For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Relax by the water at Playa Caracas and Playa Media Luna. Visiting Balneario Sun Bay and Playa La Chiva will get you outdoors. There's lots more to do: find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, stroll through Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, relax and rejuvenate at Serenity Point Yoga, and browse the exhibits of Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
On the 19th (Fri), stop by Ocean State of Mind, view the masterpieces at Playa Oeste Gallery, then identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Crashboat. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: visit a coastal fixture at Faro de Punta Higuera and then kick back and relax at Sandy Beach.
