San Juan — 1 night

Walled City

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
On the 17th (Sat), make a trip to La Puerta de San Juan, then stop by Old San Juan, and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Paseo de la Princesa. Keep things going the next day: stroll through Pine Grove Beach, stroll the grounds of Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, and then steep yourself in history at Sitio Histórico de San Juan.

Isla de Vieques — 3 nights

Isla Nena

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Playa Caracas and Balneario Sun Bay. Get outdoors at Playa La Chiva and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. Next up on the itinerary: take a leisurely stroll along Malecon, get great views at Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, and stop by Isla Vida.

Ponce — 1 night

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. On the 22nd (Thu), take a leisurely stroll along La Guancha de Ponce, contemplate the long history of Museo Castillo Serralles, then get engrossed in the history at Museo de Arte de Ponce, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Casa Wiechers-Villaronga.

Traveling by combination of ferry and car from Isla de Vieques to Ponce takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry, taxi, bus, and car; or do a combination of flight and shuttle. Traveling from Isla de Vieques in December, expect little chillier with lows of 70°F in Ponce. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Thu) to allow time to drive to Rincon.

Rincon — 2 nights

Corner

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
On the 23rd (Fri), enjoy the sand and surf at Sandy Beach, then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Crashboat. Keep things going the next day: stroll through Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, then enjoy the sea views from Faro de Punta Higuera, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Domes Beach.

You can drive from Ponce to Rincon in 1.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of shuttle, flight, and taxi. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Rincon when traveling from Ponce in December, with lows around 77°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Culebra.

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Step out of the city life by going to Flamenco Beach and Culebrita. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Playa Tamarindo and Playa Zoni. The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach and visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse.
