Wander through Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, a final resting place of many prominent Puerto Ricans. Established in 1863 and named after Saint Maria Magdalena de Pazzi, the colonial-era cemetery is situated in the old part of town beside the city's landmark fortress. Surrounded by the tall fort walls and overlooking the Atlantic, the cemetery offers expansive ocean views. Roam the grounds and explore marble tombs, mausoleums, and ornate headstones, many belonging to notable local politicians, writers, and artists. Located next to the dark fort and with background of the see the mostly white tombstones make the view of this place extremely vivid. The cemetery is still in use.

Another must see on your visit to San Juan! Unfortunately we failed to plan ahead and carve out enough time to explore the city of Old San Juan! So our trip was lots of short stops among the many treasures! Our next trip will certainly have more time set aside for Old San Juan! I can't wait to come back! So do your self a favor and plan accordingly, you'll be glad you did! The cemetery is so impressive, from its location over looking the ocean and Fort to the variety of burial arrangements.

Very peaceful cemetery next to the ocean with a lot of prominent people buried here. Sadly due to its age and lack of maintenance it's in a rough state, but it is an interesting visit for those that appreciate these type of locations.
