Create an itinerary including Hacienda Buena Vista
Wake up to not only smell the coffee beans, but also learn the history of how they were produced, at Hacienda Buena Vista. One of Puerto Rico’s best remaining examples of a 19th-century coffee plantation, the site was established in 1833 and stretches across 33.1 ha (81.8 ac) of fertile land, including a subtropical forest. Take a tour of the plantation, fully refurbished and in complete working order, to gain a harrowing insight into the lives of the slaves who worked here. Step inside the farm and grinding mill to witness the power of the Rio Canas and how it operates the still-working hydraulic turbine. If you don't feel like taking a tour, enjoy a self-guided wander through the property. • The staff were very friendly and informative. They have the tour in English since all of us spoke English. We got to walk in the woods and see the canal which brings the water to the water wheel...

  • Incredibly dedicated staff (Anna [pretty sure that was her name] was great) for a really nice destination. They could also sell water or drinks (suggestion). But it's a great exposure to PR...

  • This Hacienda is beautiful with lots of history behind it. The tour is about an hour long which shows you all it's surrounding including the house where they lived, the river with the waterfall and all the antique machinery which up to day still works. They demonstrate the working machinery in front of you, it's awesome.
  • Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. The organization that operates and owns this place is fantastic. They do a great job of preserving the history and conserving the land. I was extremely impressed with the gentleman who gave us a tour. Fortunately I cannot remember his name now but he had a history degree and was extremely knowledgeable and a quite likeable guy as well. I would highly recommend taking a visit to this place.
