Those interested in Puerto Rico's ancient indigenous history should not miss Centro Ceremonial Indígena Tibes, one of the most important archaeological excavation sites in the Caribbean. A hurricane in 1975 washed away some top soil, revealing an abundance of pre-Taino, Taino, and Igneri artifacts. Visit the center and view these objects, alongside the ruins and remnants. The museum also offers detailed and extensive information about these civilizations dating back to 25 CE. Before you head to Ponce, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Ponce travel planner, to make sure you see all that Ponce has to offer, including Centro Ceremonial Indígena Tibes.

We had an amazing experience. The gentleman at the front desk was fully bilingual and extremely gracious. There is a small gallery with pieces made by a local artist. The main museum, while small, is packed with artifacts excavated from the site. Signage inside the museum and along the path to the site are in English and Spanish. We highly recommend it if you are in the vicinity of Ponce.

It was a pleasure. But sad we were the only ones there. The staff was extremely friendly and informative. Admission is fee. I guess the government is doing something right by keeping this preserve open. History is important.
