Islets of Granada represents an archipelago created when the nearby volcano's cone was strewn across the lake thousands of years ago. The small islands have since become covered with vegetation and are a haven for birdlife. Today many of the islands have houses, hotels, and shops on them. Take a boat tour or hire kayaks and sail around the area, observing monkeys and wading birds. You'll stop off at certain islets for refreshments and a swim. Beautiful islands off the coast of Granada. We took a boat tour to see the different islands and it is definitely recommended if you are anywhere near. Our favorite island was the one that a Veterinarian bought a long time ago in order for the local monkey population to live in. It was great learning about the history of the Islands and who owns which one. Will definitely love to do this tour again if we are ever back in Nicaragua.
