Get a window into the Iceland of the past at Skogar Museum. What started as a humble private collection more than half a century ago has developed into a true museum. See historical houses and workshops, a consecrated church, and a schoolhouse. The collection of artifacts includes authentic pieces of furniture, tools, home appliances, handicrafts, and, of course, fishing boats, which have always played an important role in Iceland's economy. The latest addition to the complex, the Museum of Transport, tells the story of communication technology development in Iceland. If you're visiting with a larger group, make a reservation in advance. Skogar Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.

Great museum with Icelandic history. We loved visiting the inside of the turf houses. Museum staff were really lovely. The cafe nearby - Freya is wonderful as well.

Such a great stop along on our tour of Iceland. A great museum documenting Icelandic history. Beautiful, authentic, early buildings to tour give you a real feeling of how Icelandic life was. Well worth the time to learn more about the history all around us on our vacation. There is a small fee for entry to the museum and grounds. Bathrooms are available on site.

Great museum. The outside contains a few old houses, with items and furnitures. This part is really nice to see the old Iceland. Interior is a massive collection of objects. It's interesting, but it lacks explanation and it could probably be better if the collection was more curated. Still good to see, but I'd favor spending time in the old houses.
