Create an itinerary including Curi Cancha Reserve
Discover a piece of Costa Rican cloud forest at Curi Cancha Reserve. The 96 hectare (237 acre)wildlife refuge was established as a nature reserve in 1997 and serves as a scenic spot for hiking and bird-watching. Take a guided tour or set off on the trails by yourself, exploring the primary cloud forest that's sprawled with pieces of open space that make it easier to spot native animals. Roaming the trails, you might see toucans, resplendent quetzals, sloths, anteaters, howler monkeys, or capuchins. • This was a great alternative to many of the more popular parks in the Monteverde area. It is particularly good for bird spotting but you have a good chance of seeing forest floor mammals too. This park tends to be quieter as it is one of the less visited and this helps a lot in getting to close to nature and the animals. The trails are deceptive, they done appear long but you can easily spend 3-4 hours here!
  • I went without a guide so I didn't see as many animals as I might have, but I did see several toucans, some capuchin monkeys, and a few other very cool birds. It was beautiful scenery and visiting the weather change at the continental divide was awesome! The restrooms were also clean. There are a lot of mosquitoes though!
