Find yourself peering into the the deep blue "eyes" of the natural phenomenon of Pozo de las Animas. Twin sinkholes sitting side by side create the illusion of sunken eyes in the earth. Caused by collapsed underground voids, the site is the result of the dissolution of gypsum deposits. A small, light-blue lake of mirrored fresh water gathers at the base of each of the sinkholes, which are both a deep blue-green color from the mineral composition. The sinkholes are located just off the highway, so you can stop to snap a quick photo and take in the surrounding mountain scenery.
