White House, Washington DC

#16 of 435 in Things to do in Washington DC
Government Building · Tourist Spot
The simple name is doesn’t match the power that comes with White House. This recognizable house serves as the home and workplace of the president of the United States. Originally completed in 1800, the building has housed every U.S. President. Its exterior showcases Neoclassical architectural style, including Greek columns and its signature white facade. The complex itself contains the presidential residence, the West and East Wings, and an executive office building. The Oval Office within the West Wing hosts many of the president's daily meetings and acts as the nerve center for the entire building. To tour the White House, you must arrange your visit through a Member of Congress. Tour reservations are extremely limited. Even if you can't go on a tour, be sure to walk by to see the exterior of this famous residence. • It was very cool to see the White House! It's nice seeing where the President lives. I recommend visiting the important building. (Please note that we did not actually enter the White House's interior, we only saw the outside.). A must see when you visit DC! I was overwhelmed with how incredible and noteworthy this place is! We also got to see the president fly over which was pretty cool!
  • Try and obtain a White House tour by contacting your congress person’s office in advance. Or if you happen to know any Secret Service Agents, then maybe you can expedite the ticketing process. The tour is high security (obviously) and, once you’re inside you are able to roam through the White House East Wing in designated rooms. You’ll enjoy an historic experience as you view portraits, hear stories, and enjoy the weightiness of the place itself. A friend who we joined had gone during Christmas season and highly recommends a visit then!
