Old South Carriage Company, Charleston

#2 of 483 in Outdoors in Coastal South Carolina
There’s no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the red sash - our symbol of quality and your assurance of a great tour. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson St, just 2 blocks from the City Market, and meet our friendly and professional staff. You can order tickets ahead of time online or walk in - tours depart every 20-30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy.

Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, Old South’s 65-acre plantation on John’s Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

  • Drake was a knowledgeable guide and our horse Buddy did all the hard work. Fantastic tour on route #5. If the guide is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, then all routes will be great tours. Drake was great. Lovely day, even if it was cold! The blankets were a hospitable touch, and much appreciated.
  • Buddy the horse and John the guide were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and enjoying. Fabulous tour! I went again and was lucky enough to get Buddie again. He's gentle and sweet. Big horse for pulling, they do such a great job with the care of these horses.
