Remember the United States' fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery, where casualties and deceased veterans of every U.S. war lie buried. The cemetery covers an area of over 253 hectares (624 acres), and was established in 1864 on an estate that once belonged to the wife of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The final resting place for nearly 260,000 dead, the cemetery also includes the grave of John F. Kennedy, marked by an eternal flame. Uniformed soldiers protect the graves of unidentified bodies from the wars fought in the 20th century, with a ceremonial changing of the guard every hour. Start your tour at the visitor center, where you can look at informative exhibits and pick up a free map. Sicuramente stando Washington và visitato.C'è ovviamente una grande atmosfera commemorativa, si passa un po per la storia americana.Anche commovente more »Definitely according to Washington you will be visited. There's obviously a great commemorative atmosphere, you go a little bit through American history. Even moving
Very humbling experience. Walking through the paths and looking at the endless graves was a reminder of the sacrifices that thousands and thousands of soldiers have made for the U.S. It is the perfect sacred place to show respect to those who have served and fallen. The facility and grounds are beautiful. The atmosphere was so calm, quiet, serene, peaceful. PS: wear comfortable shoes for walking.
While not a eatery which is typical of my reviews, Arlington is a must see stop. The trolley host provides some helpful information that you might otherwise not have heard. One of our trolley guides was pretty dry and dull but overall we did not care. They all still gave us info that was beneficial. Some of the views are exceptional and the changing of the guards was impressive, as is their dedication.
