Erddig, Wrexham

4.6
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Wrexham
Capture the splendor of early-18th-century living at Erddig, one of England’s finest stately homes. Set on 485 hectares (1,200 acres) of country gardens, the house offers a thorough look at the functioning of an 18th-century estate. Tour the upstairs rooms to admire the lavish antique furnishings before heading downstairs to see the servants' quarters and work spaces. Walk or take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the gardens to visit the many outbuildings that line the property. Park for free on site and bring a picnic to enjoy while sitting in the walled garden. Put Erddig on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Wrexham trip maker tool .

  • Upon driving to Erdig we reached the car park designated for coaches, only to find it full of cars, when there's a huge car park not 100 yards away. Upon enquiring we were told this was not in anyone'...  more »

  • The sun was shining and really lovely place to be in such a day. The whole estate is fabulous. The house it's self is worth visiting, much of it open and very interesting. The formal gardens are great to stroll through with wide open spaces for the children to run around in as well as the gardens to admire. The "Wolf Den" has the large adventure play area within the woods, my little one really enjoyed this. A 10 out of 10 day out!
  • We dropped-on: the weather was lovely. Seeing inside the house is highly recommended, so if it is busy then do get a timed entry ticket. The gardens and grounds of Erddig Hall are smashing. Worth exploring and ideal for a picnic. There are even some deck chairs provided by the NT but these are limited in number. They are active bee-keepers, too! There's just so much to see / do / learn / explore.
  • Superb grounds with fruit trees and plenty of assorted flower beds. Two lakes well stocked with fish (take along some suitable fish food) Fabulous play area for kids (wolf's den) with climbing frame sculptures made from felled trees, swings and den making facilities. Check when organised children's activities are on offer for further entertainment. Snack van on site. In the gardens are bee hives areas and in good weather large deck chairs available on the lawn. Interesting exhibitions in several outbuildings, gift shop, and excellent snack cafe. Next time will visit the historical house and possibly the on site restaurant. Large free car parking. Free entry for National Trust members. Excellent family day out.
  • You need NT membership or pay to get into either Gardens on their own or combined with the house. Well worth it, especially on a hot day. You don't need to pay to walk around the 1200 acre estate and you can get a good look at the house from both sides if your up for a decent walk.
  • A cool place to spend the day. Living in Wrexham there is quite a bit to do but going to Erddig is a favourite of mine. When it's open you can go in side to look or just walk around the grounds. They have a side bit to it called wolves den which is extremely fun for children. We always walk our dogs around the grounds which they love.
