#1 of 32 in Parks in Snowdonia National Park
Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, with an altitude of 1,085 m (3,560 ft). The microclimate and ecological beauty earned it the designation of the National Nature Reserve. Access the top by train or challenge yourself by going on foot. If you enjoy hiking or mountain climbing, choose from a variety of trail paths rated according to difficulty. Once at the top, enjoy some of the farthest-reaching views of the British Isles, including Ireland, Scotland, and England. For the least-strenuous route to the top, board the round-trip Victorian rack-and-pinion train. Either way, you can stop in for a mountaintop lunch at the summit cafe. Put Snowdon at the forefront of your travel plans using our Nant Gwynant day trip planner.

  • We were quite concerned at first when we thought about taking our 6 and 8 year old up the miner's path. Well they found it easier than us. We would totally recommend it.  more »

  • Snowdon is great mountain to climb. If it’s your first time I would recommend using the Llanberis Path. It will take you between 2-3 hrs to reach the summit ( 1085 m ). If you don’t feel like climbing, you can always use the Mountain Railway 🚃 which can take you to the top where you find nice little restaurant.
  • Challenging mountain. Wear good footwear and a walking stick is very good when coming down. The surface is hard rock so does wear on your knees and ankles. Then again girls when up in slacks and t shirts wearing pumps on their feet. If you want to cheat there is a train. Check the times.
  • Went up with 2 children, can I just say it was a fabulous experience, the path is well kept up enough not to be dangerous and while the climb is long and hard, there are plenty of safe places to sit and rest. Not to mention the fabulous views.
  • Incredible natural beauty - walked up llanberis path in 28 degree heat but still good fun. Everybody climbing up is so friendly and helps each other up the mountain. Can't wait to do it again, beginners welcome - please give it a try.
  • What a beautiful place, ranger path up and down was very enjoyable, and some fantastic views from half way up, being that the peak was clouded over at the time. Still a lot of fun!
