Albert Dock, Liverpool

4.6
Albert Dock is among the country's most architecturally and historically significant collections of buildings, and houses Liverpool's most exciting attractions. It opened in 1846 as Britain's first structure built from cast iron, brick, and stone, and was the world's first fireproof construction. Start in the Beatles Story exhibit, where you'll learn all about the four Liverpudlians and their incredible impact on modern music. View some of the most acclaimed British and international contemporary art exhibits at the Tate Liverpool. Head into Mersey Maritime Museum to discover Liverpool's maritime heritage, and study ancient and modern slavery in the International Slavery Museum. You'll also find a large selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops among the buildings' grand colonnades. Some of the museums have an entrance fee, but a stroll around the complex is free. • Bustling, vibrant, exciting. Lots of places to see, we visited the Maritime museum which was fascinating. Everything was clean, well set out, very interesting and informative. It was Armed forces day with helicopters, tanks and a ship named The Iron Duke in the dock, which we had a tour around, it was amazing with the crew on hand to answer questions. The tall ships were in the dock which we also had a walk around. The sea cadets on the ropes or rigging were fantastic performing synchronized gymnastics high up, very impressive. Street vendors were selling food and drink, the bands were marching and playing, the whole area was wonderful the architecture is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
  • Absolutely loved the Liverpool experience but would never buy food from the red bus again £26 for two burgers and tiny bottle of bud and a thimble of wine what a rip off. We left the burgers. We also went to the China town area and that was lovely. The taxi's are amazing and very reasonable I think they are called Delta cabs
  • Pricey, but a decent place to relax, drink and eat. Pump house does good food with standard draft beers and wines. Smugglers is a sight for sore eyes and their drinks selection is top notch. Food good too. Revs is Revs. Tate gallery have some William Blake there. Yeah, Albert Dock is a good way to spend a few hours and especially when there's some sunshine. Four stars only because it's a costly place.
  • We visited here about 13 years ago and it has changed so much since then. The area has expanded so much with many more shops and hotels. The docks area is fantastic with more museums, cafes shops and a fair. Some amazing new buildings. It is ideal for couples, families or tour buses. There are so many things to see. We stayed at the Ibis hotel by the albert dock which is ideal location for everything.
  • Absolutely loved the atmosphere here and the business of the city. The people here are so friendly and the different tours available and the scenery over the Merseyside is absolutely stunning and you can get to go on some of the ships and the big wheel and nearby cathedral give you amazing views over the city and out with. We had a really good clear sunny day and could see the Blackpool tower and Wales from where we were. Well recommended for a view.
