Chester Zoo, Chester

Chester Zoo is one of the best places for viewing wildlife in the UK. The 45 hectare (111 acre) site houses more than 11,000 animals. See the greater one-horned rhinoceros on the Asian Plains, elephants in the Asian Forest, and jaguars in one of the world's largest jaguar enclosures. Walk through Butterfly Journey to completely surround yourself with the colorful winged creatures, and enter the Fruit Bat Forest to observe these giant bats. You can sit in on various animal talks throughout the day, and make sure you also spend time in the diverse, award-winning gardens. Choose from six different restaurants and kiosks. If you're traveling with small children, consider renting a buggy to ferry them around the zoo. Use our Chester trip site to add Chester Zoo and other attractions to your Chester vacation plans.

  • What can you say about Chester zoo? Best in the UK. 3rd best in the world. I have no doubts about those awards. Always a great day. Food has improved over the last few years and now the choice and quality is what is deserved of such a great attraction. Only complaint is the monorail is not free. Would recommend this attraction to any one any age. 1st class.
  • This was my first visit to Chester Zoo in several years. The park was very clean, and quiet given it was a weekday in the school term. There are plenty of places to eat and get refreshments and the attractions are brilliant, especially the newer ones. One of the newer sections of the zoo, called Islands is absolutely brilliant, the animal enclosures are large and well designed, and the pathways are surrounded with lovely plants. The whole section is huge! And there is a free boat ride which is very relaxing. Highly recommend the zoo, we had a great day out.
  • The exhibits and enclosures are amazing. Really well thought out and presented for the animals but also for the public. Spacious and enriched habitats. The layout is great too as you get to see animals from areas rather than simply all the cats in one place for example. The tropical house with the birds flying around was incredible. Sad that there has to be a sign warning people not to throw things at the birds though! We will be back as we only got to see about a third :D
  • My experience at Chester Zoo is one that can't be measured in simple terms. My best possible description best day ever. From the warm and inviting staff, the vast range of wildlife present in spacious and luxurious enclosure, the the inventive and convenient monorail, everything about the zoo is immaculate. Prior to going to the zoo, I had heard that it was the third best zoo in the world, and on my trip down from London I was skeptical of this fact. However now, I can't believe it's not number one. No matter the unpredictable weather, Chester Zoo will never disappoint, whatever the occasion. Would highly recommend.
  • Great selection of exhibits and really helpful staff. Nice food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Very clean pathways well suited to wheelchairs and buggies. Mobility scooters are available but I would suggest booking in advance as their is a high demand. They also have single and twin buggies for Hire. A very pleasant day out.
