Serekunda

— 6 nights
Serekunda hugs the Atlantic Ocean on one side and faces the Gambia River on the other, both of which provide an escape from the heat when temperatures rise.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Gunjur Village Museum and River Gambia National Park. Visiting Kotu Beach and Black and White Safari - Day Tours will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Serekunda side-trips: Kartong (The Reptile Farm & Lemonfish Art Gallery), Tanje Village Museum (in Tanji) and Abuko Nature Reserve (in Banjul). There's lots more to do: see what you can catch with a fishing tour, stop by Senegambia Craft Market, tour the pleasant surroundings at Katchikally Crocodile Pool, and contemplate the long history of National Museum.

Smiling Coast
The smallest country of mainland Africa, the Gambia consists of the Gambia River valley and the hills that run along its edges. Taking off on a journey down the river during your vacation in Gambia allows you to discover a landscape known worldwide as a bird-watcher's paradise--you might want to keep your binoculars and camera handy at all times. The Atlantic coast boats a number of beach resorts with large hotels and shining sands, while the fishing villages farther inland offer an altogether more rustic and basic take on Gambian charm.
