Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Mon): sample the fine beverages at Casa Bacardi Puerto Rico. On the 16th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: stroll through El Yunque Rain Forest.

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Thu): paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour and then kick back and relax at Balneario Sun Bay. Keep things going the next day: tour the pleasant surroundings at Vieques National Wildlife Refuge and then stroll through Playa La Chiva.

You can fly from San Juan to Isla de Vieques in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle, taxi, and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 85°F in April, and nighttime lows around 75°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Fri) early enough to catch the flight to Culebra.

Culebra

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 20th (Sat), get advice or help at Culebra Public Library and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Flamenco Beach. On the 21st (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach and then kick back and relax at Playa Zoni.
