Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital, effortlessly combines small-town charm with heaps of big city energy.
Get out of town with these interesting Reykjavik side-trips: Thingvellir (Thingvellir National Park & Oxararfoss), Seljalandsfoss - Waterfall (in Hella) and Thermal Spas (in Grindavik). Spend the 17th (Thu) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hallgrimskirkja, see Off-Road Tours, take an in-depth tour of National Museum of Iceland, and admire all the interesting features of Landnámssýningin/The Settlement Exhibition.

Often referred to as Iceland's second city, Akureyri offers an array of cultural attractions in a scenic setting.
Step out of Akureyri to go to Hauganes and see Whale Watching Hauganes, which is approximately 30 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: take in the dramatic scenery at Dettifoss Waterfall, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Namafjall (Namaskard), take in the natural beauty of Mývatn Nature Baths, and capture your vacation like a pro with an inspiring photography tour.

Traveling by flight from Reykjavik to Akureyri takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In June, plan for daily highs up to 15°C, and evening lows to 7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Sat) so you can travel to Vatnajokull National Park.

Vik

Iceland's southernmost village, Vik, sports some of the country's wildest and most dramatic coastline.
Explore Vik's surroundings by going to Kirkjubaejarklaustur (Skaftareldahraun & Fjadrargljufur Canyon).
