Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Museu Nacional do Azulejo and National Coach Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Discover out-of-the-way places like Miradouro da Graca and Igreja de Sao Domingos ( Santa Justa e Rufina ). Step out of Lisbon with an excursion to Troia Beach in Troia--about 1h 30 min away. Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Castelo de S. Jorge, take a stroll through Parque das Nacoes, pause for some photo ops at Arco do Triunfo, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos.

Sao Paulo, Brazil to Lisbon is an approximately 14-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. Fátima is a civil parish in the municipality of Ourém, in the Portuguese Santarém District. On the 24th (Sat), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica da Santissima Trindade, pause for some photo ops at Museu do Santuario de Fatima, see the interesting displays at Museu de Cera, then examine the collection at O Milagre de Fatima - Museu Interativo, and finally examine the collection at Fatima Luz e Paz. On the 25th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: make a trip to Casa De Lucia, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fatima, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Paroquia de Fatima e dos Pastorinhos.

You can take a bus from Lisbon to Fatima in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Traveling from Lisbon in August, expect nights in Fatima to be about the same, around 60°F, while days are a bit cooler, around 78°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Porto.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Visit Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios and Largo da Oliveira for their historical value. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to FC Porto Museum and O Navio Gil Eannes. Get out of town with these interesting Porto side-trips: Praia da Costa Nova (in Ilhavo), Se de Braga (in Braga) and Ponte Romana de Trajano (in Chaves). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Capela das Almas, pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja dos Carmelitas, pause for some photo ops at Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular, and appreciate the views at The Douro Valley.

A mere 32 km (20 mi) from Lisbon, the coastal town of Cascais has a long history of entertaining royals.
On the 30th (Fri), see the interesting displays at Museu do Mar Rei D. Carlos, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Convent of the Capuchos, then step into the grandiose world of Park and National Palace of Pena, and finally take in nature's colorful creations at Quinta da Regaleira. Keep things going the next day: tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia da Rainha, get a new perspective on nature at Museu de Historia Natural, and then admire the landmark architecture of Sintra Railway Station.
