Venice, Italy to San Jose is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of flight and bus. You'll gain 7 hours traveling from Venice to San Jose due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Venice in January, expect San Jose to be much hotter, temps between 30°C and 21°C. The rainforest meets the sea at Manuel Antonio National Park, a small but scenic natural preserve on the west coast of Costa Rica.
You'll get in some beach time at Playa Manuel Antonio and Playa Ventanas. Step off the beaten path and head to Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary and Dolphin & Whale Watching. Get out of town with these interesting Manuel Antonio side-trips: Mama Toucan's Natural and Organic Food Store (in Dominical) and Uvita Beach (in Uvita). Surfing remains the main reason to take a trip to Tamarindo, as the beachside town is mostly known for its excellent waves.
Step off the beaten path and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Spas. Venture out of the city with trips to Fishing Charters & Tours (in Playa Flamingo) and Dolphin & Whale Watching (in Playas del Coco).
