Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Depigment Art and La Casa de los Contrafuertes. Your inner history buff will appreciate Old San Juan and Sitio Histórico de San Juan. Change things up with these side-trips from San Juan: Playa Luquillo (in Luquillo) and Estudio de Arte Samuel Lind (in Loiza). Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Kick off your visit on the 14th (Mon): admire the masterpieces at Museo de Arte de Ponce, then appreciate the history behind Museo Castillo Serralles, then look for gifts at Utopia, and finally take in the exciting artwork at Centro Cultural Carmen Sola de Pereira de Ponce.

You can drive from Rincon to Ponce in 1.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of taxi, flight, and shuttle. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Rincon in February since evenings lows in Ponce dip to 69°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Mon) early enough to travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Tue): take a leisurely stroll along Malecon and then kick back and relax at Balneario Sun Bay. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 16th (Wed): enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Pata Prieta, then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa La Chiva, and then add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
