San Juan

Walled City

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
On the 8th (Fri), enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Ocean Park, then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Luquillo, and then make a trip to Ashford Avenue. On the next day, get outside with Outdoor Activities, kick back and relax at Condado Beach, and then make a trip to Plaza de La Democracia.

Newark, USA to San Juan is an approximately 7-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Newark to San Juan. Expect warmer temperatures when traveling from Newark in April; daily highs in San Juan reach 87°F and lows reach 75°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Ponce.

You can drive from San Juan to Ponce in 1.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or take a shuttle. Traveling from San Juan in April, expect nights in Ponce to be about the same, around 71°F, while days are a bit cooler, around 82°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sun) early enough to travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

Isla Nena

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Visiting Balneario Sun Bay and Scuba & Snorkeling will get you outdoors. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Playa La Chiva and Playa Navio. There's lots more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa Caracas, enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Media Luna, and take in the waterfront at Malecon.

Do a combination of car and ferry from Ponce to Isla de Vieques in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car, bus, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and flight. Expect a daytime high around 85°F in April, and nighttime lows around 75°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) to allow time to fly to Culebra.

Culebra

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
You'll get in some beach time at Flamenco Beach and Playa Carlos Rosario. Visiting Culebrita and Playa Tamarindo will get you outdoors. Next up on the itinerary: tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa Zoni, kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach, and get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports.
