The traditional way of selling fresh fruit and vegetables in the area, the floating market has become a popular tourist attraction in recent years, charming foreign visitors and helping the salespeople keep afloat. BEST AUTHENTIC FLOATING MARKET: I've lived in Bangkok for three years and this is absolutely the best place in Thailand to see and feel how things use to be. It's a fairly good trip out of Bangkok but certainly well worth the hour or so travel time. There are other floating markets, but definitely, nothing else compares and it's affordable too. The prices seem little different than most other places outside the city to me. If you want to see Old School Thailand, you definitely want to put this place on your list. The photographs are just a teaser. It's much better in person, with an honest, natural vibe you'll never forget.
This place deserves a better mark, but it is the case that this floating market is very tourist oriented. It is beautiful with some really great food, I ate boat noodle here that was mind blowing. The reason why this market gets three stars from me is that you have to be very careful about what vendors you deal with. Most are just beautiful people who genuinely care and are not trying to short you. However if you rent a boat for a tour they invariably stop (for 10 minutes - you get off) at one shop where you will encounter very nice merchandise, all have stickers with no associated prices. If you don't speak Thai some vendors here will attempt to take advantage of you, so be very careful. The lady i speak of specifically must have mistaken my Thai girlfriend for a Chinese girl, and when she tried to overcharge me for some chopsticks my girlfriend called her out. You may not be so lucky to have a Thai person with you, just be vigilant and you will have a good experience here.
