Wat Suthat, Bangkok

4.5
Take in the beautiful architecture of Wat Suthat. Angular marble pillars support colorful roofs with high gables, ornately decorated in the typical Bangkok style. Marble flagstones reflect the sky, and Buddha statues adorn the walls. Wander the tranquil grounds and see the 28 Chinese pagodas, representing the 28 Buddhas born on this earth. In front of the temple, admire the 30 m (98 ft) tall Giant Swing, formerly used in an old Brahmin ceremony. A royal temple of the first grade, it's construction began in 1807, at the behest of King Rama I, but it would not be completed until 1847, during the reign of King Rama III. • Wat Suthat is located by the giant swing at Bangkok's town square and is little visited by tourists. Take the walk there from the tourist traps at Wat Pho through Saranrom Park and Wat Rachabopit. And find the gift to the monk who has everything, in stores on Bamrung Mueang Street

  • Less common than Wat Pho place. The Buddha is huge and worth the visit. Entry to 100 beats per person. Other temples are currently much more beautiful as it is under renovation.

  • This is one of the Royal temples, there only ten temples with such status . It is well preserved and a serene place in the middle of Bangkok. It has quite courtyards and spectacular temple and prayer hall. Both have large Buddha images and extensive murals on the walls.
  • It is a good temple for meditation. You could feel the kindness of ancient budda statue in side the main hall.
