Victory Monument Reviews
Had a 8 hour layover @ BKK in the evening and took the ARL train and BTS (61B total) to Victory monument just because it was around 30 minutes. Took me awhile to find the boat noodle restaurant Baan.... more »
Although a large monument, it is set within a large roundabout and feels an awkward place to walk to. The monument was dressed with flowers when visited in February and it also had photo images of... more »
Victory Monument has long served as one of the busiest transportation hubs in Bangkok. Nearly all public buses and vans to the city’s outskirts as well as nearby beach towns leave from this area. Unlike Siam, also a major transport hub surrounded by glitzy shopping malls, Victory Monument is a popular hangout place for working-class Thais and those who can’t afford the high price tag of fine dining and brand-name luxuries. With two shopping malls surrounding Victory Monument and a night market starting from dusk onwards, there is always something to see here, including a movie theatre and karaoke. From the monument, walk slightly south to Soi Rang Nam and discover a whole range of shop-house eateries serving up tasty yet affordable food. For brand-name shopping or high-quality souvenirs, King Power Duty Free is your best bet.
We love the Victory Monument area of Bangkok. The monument itself is like a big road roundabout and if you are lucky you may catch a ceremony going on. The sky train gives excellent views of the monument (head for Victory Monument station) and from here you can catch taxis, tuk-tuks, buses and mini buses. There are market stalls selling an array of goods, food stalls and a couple of inexpensive malls all situated around the monument. Well worth a visit to see Bangkok in its full bustle!
