Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit), Bangkok

4.4
Witness the delicately modeled beauty of the world's largest gold seated Buddha at Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit). Many of Asia's golden statues were once covered in plaster and stucco to disguise them from invading armies during times of conflict. The discovery of this magnificent golden Buddha was accidental: a team of people moving the object dropped it, its plaster casing cracked, and the golden figure shone out after many years in hiding. Visit the established Bangkok temple complex to admire the Buddha's clear, crisp form and learn of its fascinating origins. • Located between chinatown and the train station, the flow of visitors is minor. So, in this temple is possible a reflection/prayer with many Thais the neighborhood

  • There are unfortunately just not quite the Budapest. People people, no time or possibility of everything and in a small circle to look at!

  • Beautiful architecture and design of the temple. Also the statue is said to be made of gold which was only discovered about 60 years or so back and had been covered in stucco or plaster for about 200 years. It was first found lying in the beach is what I was told by the local guide after which it was picked up and placed in a small temple. They discovered that it was good only when they were shifting it for renovations of the same temple. The local tourist shops have reasonable pricing and have some really beautiful things to pick and choose from and of course the shop keepers are extremely polite, so that's a plus as well. It's located almost in the busy part of the city. And I recommend this place to see the beauty and the view from the top of the temple.
  • This temple is so important as it holds the largest pure gold Buddha image in the world. The image dates back to the sukhothai period and weighs over 5 tons. It's definitely worth the visit.
