Shop for souvenirs, flowers, and fresh produce at Taling Chan Floating Market during the weekends. You'll have the opportunity to buy delicious grilled shellfish and other edible treats from vendors bobbing up and down in small traditional boats that are packed with appetizing ingredients and basic cooking equipment. A number of stalls and permanent restaurants sit on dry land close to the wharfs, where the boat vendors tie up, and a group of musicians plays traditional Thai music for a few hours each day, adding to the ambience. Combine a trip to the market with a boat tour of the local khlongs (canals) to make the most of your visit. Just an absolutely fabulous place. Not far from Bangkok central, it is a smaller version of the more touristy floating markets. There are plenty of vendors both on land and on water. Also, despite our Grab driver's attempt to convince us to go to a different spot there definitely are boats here for hire. You can arrange for a private ride up and down the myriad of canal "streets" or go on a group boat as we did. Fantastic. You can also eat as the locals do right from a kitchen on the water.
Changed since last year for the better. A number of sellers from food to plants greet visitors along the entrance. Thai music is played by musicians showcasing Thai instruments. Activities to do are feeding the fish, releasing small sea creatures for luck, eating along the river and a boat ride along Taling Chan to see local way of living, an orchid garden and a temple. Less people than other floating markets but make sure you get an English speaking guide for your boat trip.
