Built to commemorate the 1932 Siamese revolution, Democracy Monument serves as a public monument featuring four towering wings and a central pedestal holding a copy of Siam’s first constitution. Look for bas-reliefs on the wings that depict the soldiers, police, and civilians who propelled the revolution. Also notice the 75 cannonballs around the base of the monument that signify the Buddhist era. Visit in the evenings for especially nice photo ops. A large monument on busy roundabout. It's designated as kilometer zero for national highways that run across the country in four directions (distance starts from there). No easy pedestrian access. Nicely lit in the night. Plenty of tourist buses and minibuses depart here, often at a tourist (=inflated) price. Best to reach with water taxi (exit at Panfa Pier).
It's a great monument in the city. Yet to identity the significance of democracy monument in kingdom of Thailand. But looks nice and is part of a huge Royal avenue
