Mercado Colon, Valencia

4.1
Responding to the demand of the people to construct a public market in the area, Mercado Colon was opened by the city in 1916. A beautiful modernist building with stained-glass windows and triumphal arches, it was restored in 2003 and has been declared a national monument. Browse the market carts, where handmade goods and foods are sold, as well as the upscale boutique shops. When you need a break, visit one of the many bars or food stalls for coffee or a meal. Take advantage of the free wifi to review your itinerary or check your email, or just bring a book and soak up the atmosphere. On Sundays, enjoy an afternoon concert accompanied by a traditional drink or snack. PutMercado Colon into our Valencia day trip site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Good place to eat some tapas! Friendly staff, English speaking, good food, reasonable prices. The night we went there, there were mostly locals in the place (always a good sign). Enjoyed it!
  • Relatively small but cute building with a spectacular modernist design. There are several cafes and places to sit in. Worth a visit to witness a structure that you don't see every day
