Barbier Mueller Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, Barcelona

#55 of 112 in Museums in Barcelona
The Museu Barbier-Mueller d'Art Precolombí was the only museum in Europe devoted exclusively to the artistic legacy of the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas. It was located in the Catalan capital of Barcelona, Spain. The museum was established in 1997 to house the pre-Columbian art collection formerly held by its parent museum, the Barbier-Mueller Museum in Genève, Switzerland, which was loaned to the city of Barcelona. In 2012, the museum was unable to reach a purchase agreement with the collection's owner Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller. Subsequently, the world's most important Pre-Columbian collection in private hands was split and auctioned at Southeby's on 22 March 2013.

  • To Barbier Mueller Museum, as most sights of Barcelona, passed on a Turistic Bus'e-cutest thing if you do not take, for one reason or another, in the car, and the time of the city not so much, let's say, one day. So, after turning on the area of the corner of my eye vycepila Museum, from one type of shape already wanted to hasten the driver: "we go there, come on, faster!" what architectural ensemble! What Majesty, not gordelivaja, but know the thrill! Be sure to wander the countryside and do not apply to go inside.

  • Sadly this museum closed its doors in 2012. Over 300 pre-columbian artifacts from the Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations were auctioned to the highest bidder instead of being donated to another museum. After 15 years of delighting museum goers, History for sale :(
  • Unique collection
