Katsura Imperial Villa, Nishikyo

#6 of 79 in Parks in Kyoto
Admire the traditional Japanese architecture and garden design of Katsura Imperial Villa, a well-preserved residence of the Japanese imperial family. Only accessible as part of a tour, visits to the household last around an hour, taking the circular walking route through the garden and around the central pond. Completed in their current form in 1645, the villa and garden display many of the key features of regal Japanese households, including pristine, uncluttered living spaces, sliding doors, garden ornaments, native plant life, and shrines. • I booked a visit to the Imperial Household Agency on the Internet in advance. I was lucky because I was just elected during the season of autumn leaves in November. I found a café on the way to Katsura Rikyu from Katsura Station, but a suspicious father stopped entering the store like a shopkeeper and waited for admission in the waiting chair of the imperial palace. The visitor is only an old woman and the movement is slow, too. This Katsura Imperial Palace was founded as a separate residence of Hachijo-no-Miya. It seems that the garden of ikeizumi round-the-art is the culmination of Japanese garden beauty. The vast site was very beautiful and full of attractions, and i walked slowly while listening to the explanation of the person in charge, and understood how the old person loved the moon well, and the real thing such as that checkerpine pattern and the design of the moon was wonderful.

  • It exists as it was at the time of its founding. It was Sunday, but i was able to visit by appointment on the day. It is recommended that you book early for the season of cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. It's less than an hour's walk, but you can sit in the tea room and listen to the explanations. From Kyoto Station, you can rent a bicycle for 20 minutes and 240 yen by keihan bus bus.

  • I will review it in English, because we had the English tour. The guide was so nice and the young woman could answer all the questions we had. The area is so beautiful and gave us a calm feeling and a lot of new eypressions.
  • A palace for emperor and his family to enjoy the moon. That is one of their past time activities.
