Reynisfjara Beach, Vik

4.8
#2 of 8 in Outdoors in Vik
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful black-sand beaches in the world, Reynisfjara Beach frames the amazing landscape notable for the basalt sea stacks called Gardar. Legend has it that these rock formations are two petrified trolls, turned to stone after an unsuccessful attempt to pull a ship out of the sea. The sky over the sea can turn from dark and cloudy to sunny in a matter of minutes. Watch out for strong and unpredictable waves--the beach has seen some fatal accidents. • This beach is located very close to the small town of Vik, in the southern part of Iceland. Its sands are black and features a number of curiosities like 3 rocks located in the sea, A beautiful Cave of basalt, and clumps of basaltic rocks of hexagonal form. Next to it there are beautiful grassy slopes and adorned with beautiful purple flowers. The reflux of the sea is very rough, which is why there are chains bordering the locations for the displacement of visitors

  • Definitely crowded but gorgeous beach and breathtaking views. Some crazy tourists scaling the rock walls. You can see some puffins here too.  more »
