The black lava arch from which this peninsula takes its name, Dyrholaey rises out of the North Atlantic. You can walk high on top of the arch at 120 m (394 ft), but if you prefer to avoid heights, there is also a bridge. Admire the panoramic views from the top of Dyrhólaey. Look north to see the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, east to see the black lava Reynisdrangar sea stacks, and west to see the endless coastline. If the weather is warm enough, you may spot puffins in the area, but keep your distance, as they are usually nesting at this time and protective in nature. Dyrholaey has limited road access during some times of the year; during this time more walking is required to see the attraction. It was extremely windy on the day we visited. Couldn't really see much. I believe this place is gorgeous when it's sunny. Maybe will visit here next time on a good, sunny day. Public washrooms here available to use.
This is a beautiful lookout area with breath taking views of cliffs and black sand beaches. Like most of the country, expect strong wind and if it's cold, stay for just a few minutes, but the views are beautiful!
