Sun Voyager, Reykjavik

4.3
Wander down to the harbor to see Sun Voyager, a massive sculpture of a dreamboat. Designed by Jon Gunnar Arnason in 1990, the stainless steel artwork resembles a Viking ship and is dedicated to the sun. The sculpture is close to shore and offers a view of Mount Esja across the harbor. More art installations dot the shore if you continue to walk along the water, but this sculpture is the highlight. • A must see if you are in Reykjavik. The scenery is just amazing to scan along the horizon and watch the sunrise or sunset is like the cherry on top of the cake. I didn't had a chance to take pictures of the night scene. As this would be definitely another highlight. A great spot for Photographers.
  • It is just a work of art. I think it is beautiful, but not necessarily a reason to visit Iceland. It looks out over the bay and is inspired on a viking boat. It is nice to walk by when strolling along the boulevard.
  • Interesting statue right on the water, complimented by the gorgeous mountain scenery behind it. This area is usually packed, so go early or late if you want to get some photos free of other people. (Or wait patiently while everyone else takes photos)
  • Simple yet elegant. Great place to stop with a coffee and take in the view and sounds of the waves. Always a few people around there with cameras. Very fine piece of art
  • An interesting sculpture, but not nearly as interesting as the other sights to be seen in Reykjavik. Worth a quick stop, but won't take more than 10 minutes of your time.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
