Perlan, Reykjavik

4.1
#13 of 25 in Museums in Reykjavik
A city landmark, Perlan features an exhibit space, shops, restaurant, and viewing platform. The ground-floor exhibit area, called the winter garden, has hosted expos, markets, and concerts by Icelandic artists. On the fourth floor, browse the three shops, including a year-round Christmas shop with an emphasis on Icelandic artwork. Walk around the building on the wraparound viewing platform, which offers a 360-degree look at the city and surrounding area. If you wander up to the top floor, you'll find a cafeteria and revolving restaurant. While the food can by pricey, the restaurant provides a truly special view of Reykjavik as it rotates. The best part of the whole "walkthrough", if you can call it that, was the simulated ice cave. That was interesting and the kids enjoyed it. So first you walk through an area with different Icelandic ...  more »

My husband and I had a few hours to kill before we leave Iceland. I thought that the place was very interesting and educational. It also has a great Reykjavik 360 view from the top floor (which you ca...  more »

Good to come here for the views of Reykjavik and the exhibition on glaciers. The Ice Cave is decent but as we had been the glacier a couple of days before it wasn't that unique. Like most things in Ic...  more »

Currently under construction to become a showroom of Icelandic history, hydrothermal power generation and other interesting bits. At time of this writing only the observation desk and cafe (doesn't rotate right now) were accessible. No entry fee was charged.

Best from a distance unless you get reservations for the restaurant. Nothing at all to do up close. Good views of the city from the hill top.

A great location to see sweeping views of Reykjavik . Currently under construction to become The Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders. The property used to have an artificial geysir but it was non-operational as of April 2017. A coffee shop is still open on site.

At the moment it's a construction site inside. It looks good from outside though. Plus nice view from the top.

We were there at a good time as they were opening both the man made ice cave and exhibits about Iceland. Great outside view on top and a small cafe and shop at the top floor.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
