Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Iceland  /  Capital Region  /  Reykjavik  /  Perlan
A city landmark, Perlan features an exhibit space, shops, restaurant, and viewing platform. The ground-floor area, called the winter garden, hosts an exhibit about Icelandic nature. On the fourth floor, browse the store with an emphasis on Icelandic artwork. Walk around the building on the wraparound viewing platform, which offers a 360-degree look at the city and surrounding area. If you wander up to the top floor, you'll find a cafeteria and restaurant. The restaurant provides a truly special view of Reykjavik as it rotates each evening at 21:00. • Place not to be missed is for the panoramic view offered by the building, absolutely exceptional! The visit of the fake glacier is short but interesting.

  • Good food and good views. Didn't go in the ice caves but went on the 360 view, do not think this is worth the money. Much better to sit in the cafe and enjoy the views. After 9pm the top floor turns, however we were disappointed with how very slow it actually moves. Takes about 90 minutes to do a full rotation which is far too long for the size. If the floor rotated all the time throughout the day this would be better.
  • Visited a couple of times as our hotel was nearby and there is a free bus from Perlan down to Harpa in the city centre. We only went onto the viewing platform to take in the view. Perlan is one of the highest points in the area. Viewing platform only costs a couple of quid, but there is also a museum and an underground ice cave but the cost of that is about £25pp which is pretty steep. The place is quite iconic but to be honest was looking a bit tired on the outside. Good to visit for the view.
  • Great place to see Reykjavik in very first moment. You can climb up the hill (or by car) and then go at the top of the Perlan and see beautiful view of the city. There is also little store and restaurant so you can do shops and eat something either.
  • Fantastic museum and exhibit that will only get better! The ice cave and glacier exhibition was so cool and interesting, very informative and at times it felt very realistic as well. In the summer, they will also add a planetarium and a northern lights exhibit, so I imagine it will only improve. The cafe up top had some tasty hot cocoa, and the 360° deck offered some fantastic views of Reykjavik. Would absolutely recommend this place to spend 2-3hrs.
  • Typically creative Icelandic reuse of a utility as something to forward the culture of the country. Fantastic place to meet friends and connect over coffee and a snack. Good food as well. I recommend the photography, but found the ice cave a bit underwhelming.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
