12 Tonar, Reykjavik

4.9
#2 of 39 in Shopping in Iceland
Browse through a selection of both international artists and Icelandic indie bands at 12 Tonar. The store and the music label were founded in 1998, and soon the store became a meeting place for Icelandic musicians and emerging talents, such as Björk, Sigur Rós, and múm. Sip a free espresso or tea, read magazines, and relax while listening to music. Occasionally you might catch a live concert inside the store or in the garden. The store also sells T-shirts, cups, caps, and bags with the label's logo. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to 12 Tonar by using our Reykjavik itinerary planner.

Photos, cards, CD, records... used and new, all there! Very nice selection of Icelandic music, it makes the lovers heart! Rustic ambiance with delicious coffee corner in the back of the store, as in the living room. The team at the store is nice and helps find specially selected music. Listen is possible, just ask. Happy to be back

I had an amazing experience at 12 Tónar. I wanted records by Icelandic musicians and found a dedicated section in the basement. The staff assisted me by locating albums based on my tastes and I was able to listen to them on CD before making my purchase. I bought all but one of the albums. I can't thank them enough for introducing me to the Icelandic metal group "Sólstafir."

Excellent store to find any obscure Icelandic musician or composer on CD or vinyl. Highly recommended. They also stock a shelf with tourist souvenirs.

Free espresso while you sit and enjoy practically any cd or record in the store. It's a great environment to explore new music, and ensure that whatever you buy you'll enjoy.

Excellent store and friendly and helpful staff! Complimentary coffee and wifi. You'll find a lot of good Icelandic music which you will never find on Spotify or iTunes, wtc

My favorite place to take a break. I love the feel-at-home atmosphere that welcomes you along with the people who work there. They offer you free coffee and the permission to listen to any cd.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
