Kleinmarkthalle, Frankfurt

4.5
Rebuilt after a bombing in 1944, the building that houses Kleinmarkthalle is more functional than beautiful--but the market within draws food-lovers from all over the world. Wander past the vibrantly colored stands of fruits and vegetables, past the butchers and bakeries, and try not to get just a little bit hungry. Sample some local wine, or peruse the imported delicacies from around the world. Look for the crowds that form around lunchtime, and join them in line for a taste of homemade potato salad, sausages, or grüne Soße, a local specialty made from hardboiled eggs, sour cream, and a special combination of herbs. Put Kleinmarkthalle and other Frankfurt attractions into our Frankfurt road trip site, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The central local market of the city is a must see in order to have an idea about the city's culinary status. Here you will find tons of food to explore.  more »
  • Cool indoor market if you’re looking to grab a quick bite or coffee. Quite small so easy to navigate and enough shops with your basic grocery needs. Really cool traditional German clock shop just...  more »

  • Nice vibe for a slow morning, shopping for fresh goods. Great Souvenir shop available with goods different than what you find at most others. Worth a visit, or many! Nice place to have a few drinks on the balcony upstairs, though it's a lot of pensioners meeting up throughout the day.
  • This place is a little gem hidden in the central area of Frankfurt. One can basically find many rare ingredients that normally cannot be found in supermarket or outdoor market such as rare cut of meat, exotic fruit/vegetable, and treats from many countries. There is also a section where one can buy high quality meats and poultry. You can also have some taste testing when going around. The only minus is that the price is on the higher end.
