  • We went to Manzanillo Park from Puerto Viejo because we had rented bikes that we left at the end of the road. In front of the park, there is a tent where all visitors must write how many they are and what time they entered. As we went a little to the bowl and the paths went a little in all directions we tried not to lose sight of the side where there was the beach. We saw several monkeys in the trees and a snake on the trail. So we left because we thought it could be dangerous, having no additional information about the park. I should add, however, that the beaches in the park were really beautiful.

  • In view of the last opinions left, we were not sure what to expect. In addition, we were based in Puerto Viejo and it was a bit rained in the morning, so we feared the mud! We took the bus from 7:45 on Sundays, and started the hike at 8:30. Beautiful discovery! First quiet part along the beach, up to the gazebo. Lots of people (barbecues on the beach on Sundays). After that, serious things start! We made the path without a guide, but with the MapsMe app very useful (it indicates well the way) because otherwise it's pretty easy to get lost I think. Despite the morning rain, the trail was quite passable. We were in the middle of the jungle, we crossed a few people but no more. We've seen howler monkeys, squirrels, birds, red frogs. We were up to the end of the trail, up to Punta Mona where we rested on the beach, near a kind of community a little ' hippie ' that offers free drinking water. In our opinion, the hike is accessible to all, but quite physical nonetheless. We took the time to stop to look at the fauna and flora, and 1 h45 on the way back. Still have a hiking outfit and good shoes. Even in dry times, it remains muddy and we have been wary of insects and possible snakes. Important for MapsMe: download the application before and download the map of Costa-Rica to access the tracks without Internet connection.
