Nauyaca Waterfalls is a totally Costa Rican owned family tourism company, dedicated for several years to tour operations. These are horseback riding tours, traveling through the farm that border with two impressive waterfalls from Río Barucito.
These majestic waterfalls are one of the main attractions of the southern region in Costa Rica, not only for their natural scenic beauty, which offers the tourist moments of recreation and fun, but also to participate in different activities such as horseback ridign tours, swimming, climbing, jumping and to observe much of the beauty of the tropical rainforest, among others.
Nauyaca Waterfalls is the ideal place, not only for those in search of tranquility and nature, but also for adventure and excitement lovers.
The horseback riding tour is over a 12 kilometer route with three resting periods, departing from our office, passing by Don Lulo’s house, where you will have a delicious and typical Costa Rican breakfast.
The horseback riding tour takes approximately from 45 minutes to one hour up to “Don Lulo’s house”. After breakfast and observing animals in the family’s mini-zoo, the ride continues on for 25 minutes until arriving at the waterfalls. You may swim in the natural pools the waterfalls have formed.
On the way back we stop once again at “Don Lulo’s house” to enjoy a delicious and also typical Costa Rican lunch. After a well-earned rest on the hammocks and a delicious cup of coffee, we begin the return trip to our starting point.
The horseback ride in Costa Rica offered by Nauyaca Waterfalls is one of the best experiences that a tourist can find and enjoy in our country.
Ecotourism in Costa Rica at it's utmost with us!
The ecotouristic trip is done through paths and roads where tourists can enjoy the beauty of the landscape and also observe some of the wonders of the tropical rainforest.
At Nauyaca Waterfalls we are committed with the environment’s protection and conservation and in recent years we participated in a ecotouristc conservation project, the reforestation of certain erosioned areas. Today these areas are a habitat for many fauna species, and on occasion tourists have the opportunity of seeing them.
Eco-Tourists will also have direct contact with nature here at Nauyaca Waterfalls, to listen to the sounds of water, the singing of birds; aspects which give our tour an unequalled atmosphere, particularly for nature and adventure lovers.

Everywhere we had read that it was a 4 km round trip and 4 return route, even so it is labeled along the way, however according to GPS from the entrance of the parking until lower the stands to reach the waterfall are practically 5 km. One way is more ascent, while the return becomes somewhat lighter as it goes down. Our children did well by making the respective breaks, but it is heavy. The walk from the external parking lot represents 2 additional km one way and another both equal return, however this is a much stronger path than everything else for being on a steeper slope, so it is NOT recommended in any way for children or pe larger rsonas and in fact to make it pleasant would only be for people with very good condition. To go and enjoy the stay in the cataract bring good hydration and snack. The walk is strong but when you reach the waterfall you have your reward. The sound and the water drop is spectacular. We were unable to bathe because the day before it had rained a lot and the flow was very strong which made it dangerous for people to bathe. It is something to consider if you attend in such a rainy season as in October. Wear shoes preferably waterproof, as there is a lot of mud and puddles. Still, we really enjoyed the visit. Recommended.
Very nice pair of waterfalls in what is undeniably a touristic spot. This is all well organized and maintained. There is a 4km hike (about 2.5 miles) to get there and then the same back - the path goes up and down so take your time and bring water. The waterfalls themselves are really beautiful and wroth the effort, but if you want to can take a truck that departs I believe every hour and lets you stay there for two or three hours (which is enough), or you can go on horseback. In both cases (truck or horse riding) you need to reserve in advance. The parking is at the bottom of a very steep dirt road that can be tricky in the rainy season, in that case I'd suggest a 4x4.
Just visited today with my family. The falls were big, with strong current in the water. May be because we went in the rainy season...not sure on that. We did the hike and it was great! Our youngest is 7, and she did well, but it was fairly vigorous with a lot of hills. There are many steep steps right at the falls, so even if you ride by truck or horse you will have those steps. The parking lot seemed pretty secure. There are restrooms and changing rooms at the parking lot and at the falls. Half way to the falls there is a rest area. This is where the tours stop to eat, but they have coke, powerade and water for sale. Have cash for that, but the ticket office takes a credit card.
