  • We spent a great day in Cahuita National Park. We parked our car at the entrance to Puerto Vargas and paid 5 US dollars entrance per person. The hiking trail goes parallel to the sea with constant change through the rainforest, you have the possibility to bathe and rest in between at marked places in the sea. Showers or toilets are available at the starting point. Also a beautiful wooden walkway goes several kilometers across the jungle. The whole park is overwhelmingly beautiful, the flora and fauna just mega impressive. The complete hiking trail is about 8 km long. We saw a lot of animals and were on our own, you don't need a guide. We have completely walked through the park, including the Rio Petezoso (at least in May without any problems), to the end entrance Kelly Creek from where you can also get in for free. Once there, another highlight awaited us. 2 small sloths were poached which was beautiful to see! From Cahuita we went back to the parking lot by taxi for little money. On our trip we visited 4 national parks, the Cahuita National Park was one of our highlights!!!

  • We went the next day after it rained. We took a local guide who charged us $25 for the 2. He only accompanied us to the first river, and thanks to him we saw any animals, though little. Admission is free, although they accept donations, which could well be used in the maintenance of the park and beaches. Our idea was to trek to the end park and return, that is, about 8 kms plus 8 kms back, but, the river I mentioned had to cross it, with backpack, camera......

  • One of my favorites places in my country. It's a very clean beach were you can relax and enjoy the nature.
  • Local guides can help you spot more critters but either way you're bound to see exciting things during this nice hike. Swimming isn't allowed in the snorkeling zone. Cute monkeys and sloths, monkeys come right up to the beach so keep your bags zipped tight!!
