Plaza Dorrego, Buenos Aires

4.2
Placed in the heart of the city, Plaza Dorrego serves as a square boasting a long history and a popular present-day scene. When you go, look for historical buildings erected during the 19th century when the area served as the main residential neighborhood. The old architecture blends with new structures hosting cafes, bars, pubs, and numerous antique stores. If you hear lively music, check for musical and dance exhibitions like tango displays. If possible, see if you can catch the market that takes place each Sunday when vendors offer antiques, crafts, jewelery, period clothing, and much more. • Hopping on Sunday with all the sidewalk vendors and crowds and a very nice shady park with tables for drinks and light food on workdays. In March it had an autumn in New York feel on a pretty day tho ...  more »
  • It is an ideal walk for a Sunday, the square is much better and with restored buildings. All very good > art, tourists, good food and rest.

  • Lots of nice things on show in this market. Great if you want to come and take lots of photos. It does get very busy as it approaches lunchtime, so would recommend arriving early. Nice little place, make sure you stop by!
  • Staying near the Plaza Dorrego is not a bad idea. You will be in a hub of local activity bustling with school kids, shop owners, old people just hanging out, and lots of antique vendors. There are cafes all around the Plaza and dozens within easy walking distance. And don't forget El Zanjon museum just two or three blocks away. There, you will get a sense of the deep history of this part of town.
  • Very lovely little square away from the hustle and bustle. In a beautiful neighbourhood with cobblestone streets and old houses. Art galleries, antique shops and caf├ęs. Hotels and restaurants. One for the establishments has frequent tango dancers performing to attract and entertain the crowd.
  • A lovely shady park in the middle of this historic part of the city. Occasionally their are tango dancers displaying their skills. There are lovely old arty shops. Sunday market is great.
  • A must-see market on sundays, but can feel too crowded in the summer. Some really nice products, but prices on vintage imports such as cameras are extreme in comparison to other countries. Many nice places nearby to take a break from the madness.
