  • I took group lessons at Institute of Spanish Rayuela for two weeks in May 2017. , Even though I contacted him with short notice, Alejandro was very helpful and prompt in helping me make arrangements. The class was small. So each student received a lot of attention. My teacher was Yanina. She was very knowledgeable and professional and fun as well. I had a really good experience and would recommend the school. I improved my Spanish remove a bit in a short period of time. I plan to take lessons there again when I return to Buenos Aires.

  • Did class for two months and was very satisfied. The lessons are great and you get all the attention necessary to really learn. To me, left nothing to be desired and it was the best choice I could make!

  • I have only the best things to say about Instituto de Español Rayuela! I came to them the first time in 2013 to take some Spanish courses while conducting preliminary research for my dissertation and returned to them at the beginning of 2017 for a refresher course. The professors (I've taken courses with Alejandro, Yanina, and Judith) were all wonderful, friendly, and extremely professional. They really work to cultivate a positive learning environment and provide clear explanations for complex grammar rules. Each course is very much tailored to the students needs...this is NOT a place where you will wait in a large classroom to read out loud from some generic Spanish language workbook. Classes are small, customized, and dynamic. For someone like myself, with specific professional objectives for learning the language, Rayuela was the perfect pick because the instructors built up my speaking confidence and competence and provided custom support (even outside of the class hours!). If you are really serious about wanting to learn Spanish, I highly recommend Rayuela! Great people, great language education.
  • Rayuela is a wonderful intimate language school in a beautiful building in San Telmo. I studied at Rayuela for 7 weeks as a total beginner and it really helped me through my first few months in Buenos Aires. I studied semi-intensively and as there was no group course available the director Alejandro made me an offer for private lessons. I was taught by Alejandro who was a very good teacher, patient and interesting to chat to. Also I had a few lessons with Yanina who was also very good. I would recommend this school very highly. Thanks Alejandro !
  • I studied Spanish for three weeks in group classes at the Instituto de Español Rayuela and highly recommend it. My teacher was Yanina who is professional, patient also great fun! The classes are small and it is a great school for those who are serious about improving their Spanish.
  • I studied at Rayuela for 3 months (Oct-Dec 2015). I cannot recommend it highly enough! After visiting several language schools in Buenos Aires, I settled on Rayuela because it is smaller and more serious than others. The owner, Alejandro, is an excellent teacher and an interesting person to get to know. I also took classes from Judith who is an equally great teacher, friendly and professional. It is a small school, they are good at what they do, and offer excellent value for anyone who really wants to improve their Spanish skills while in Buenos Aires.
  • I studied at the Rayuela for five weeks, with one week as a four hour class with one other student, the other four with three hours in an individual class. I cannot speak too highly of the excellence of this school: its organization (Alejandro is super efficient), the knowledge of its teachers (my teacher was a specialist linguist who could illuminate points by referring to a whole range of languages -- as can Alejandro and other teachers), the commitment and passion of the teachers and the ethos of everyone, through all the students. The school is friendly, relaxed, but serious about teaching and learning. It is small (less than 15 students in total, up to four teachers) and provides a remarkable level of individual instruction. As a bonus, the school is situated in a very attractive suite of rooms in a well-restored C19 grand residence in San Telmo, with all its fine pubs, restaurants and shops.

Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires offers an impressive selection of budget-friendly and mid-range lodgings, as well as pricier, more luxurious options for visitors who don't mind splashing out. Good rooms are scattered across town, but your best bet for economical hostels remains San Telmo, a neighborhood on the edge of downtown. For boutique establishments and international five-star hotels, head to Palermo, Recoleta, or Puerto Madero, upscale neighborhoods drawing the majority of foreign visitors.
